2013 Year in Review

Rexy.me: You don't Need to be Better than Anyone Else but Yourself

Intro

It's this time of the year again — when I'm gonna bore you with a lengthy yearly review that only a diary could love ;)
2013 has been a crazily amazing year! I've learned & grown a lot which I'm gonna summarize in a few lessons & memorable moments.

Sometimes you'll find me highly critical of the averages and that you'll see me using some extremely vulgar words to best describe them. So if you're a girl or still a teen, I beg your pardon :)

Hope you'll make one of your own & share it with me. I'd love to read it! (What if you don't have anything to write down? Well, Screw you!)
Quick note: this is for me, uncopyrighted & doesn't support IE!

Without further ado, let me begin with:

I don't give a fuck what you think or talk about me

To be honest, I wanted to please everyone. I wanted them to like & says nice things about me.
Wah, What a naive thought I had! Life's just full of ignorant, negative & average people. What can I expect from them? Do the right things? Says the nice words? No way!
At the early age of 22, I basically know who I am & what I want. Well, as Madonna's way of saying, if that makes me son of a bitch, okay!
We were born rich & we are awesome. If others think otherwise, it's their rights & none of our business.

Malacca

Fantastic New Year celebration!

Trust is like virginity. Lost once, lost forever!

I can be your good friend. I can be both playful - which is fun & serious - well I'm damn busy but I could spend the whole Sat night having some beers & listening to your broken heart stories.

You will all have my trust but once!
This year alone, I've blocked 3 of my friends - 2 of them I would never wanna meet again. Of course I don't want that list to grow any bigger.

So my friends, especially the close ones, do not let a few bucks, some hundreds or thousands of dollars; some moments of madness or your selfish egos... break that trust.
I'm telling you, it's too cheap & definitely not worth it!

Home

Distant. Witnessed my close friend's dad passed away.
What a forgettable 14/02!

School is for kids

Don't get me wrong, there are many good reasons to go for higher education especially when you study abroad.
But if you think you'll learn something useful there, you're critically wrong! I can tell you, 90% of what's taught in school is either 'too good to be true', unrealistic or impractical. In short, it's just rubbish! ;(

Academics are too... academic
Greg Koberger

So, if a degree or master cert really makes you happier, go for it. Otherwise, I can't really find any better reason for you to do so. With ~ $30,000 of your school fee, you can travel around... Ok, how about just getting a good degree & master then go to work for those who don't even have one? Sound better? ;)

Phuket

A company trip. March.

HTML5, CSS3, SASS & VIM

Sorry I'm gonna be a bit techinical here :)
Before I learned those above, I was basically content with my IDE & skills. I thought they were pretty good already. Why should I bother? Yes, what an overestimated thought! I decided to try & never look back!
I then realise great people are usually armed with best tools & resources & vice versa. The reverse's for lousy people. Ironically, it's "unfairly" so true.

A small tip for hiring managers: you could know more about your candidates by just asking what their main IDE is. If their answer is Dreamweaver, Errr! On the other hand, if he uses something like VIM, cool! 99% of mediocre programmers will never ever use something as cool & great as VIM - yea with me as the only exception ;)

Langkawi

Beach again! April.

Work Hard

It's amazing that in such a developed country like Singapore, there are still lots of people (both old & young, both educated & uneducated) trying their luck at various kinds of lotteries. They somehow believe that they can get something out of nothing.

Luck plays an important role in my success.
The harder I work, the luckier I get!
Samuel Goldwyn

Working hard may sound like cliche but it does work. In fact, it works very well! But hard work only pays off when...

Be Smart

80% of people out there work hard. But the harder they work, the more frustrated & uphappier they're! Apparently they're not smart enough. Someone told me "but I'm not that smart". Well then just let life show how stupid you are!

I don't needa be smarter than you. You don't either. We just needa be smart - smarter than what we were yesterday(!) & remember to keep your cool ;)

If it's not worth doing, it's not worth doing right!
Brian Tracy

I've encountered some ultimate negative people. They're literally sick, ugly, broke & stupid at the same time (then probably single, jobless, purposeless, etc. as well)! I'm sure you don't wanna be one of them. Me either!

Chiangmai

Fall for Thailand :x May.

Think & Act Independently

Oftentimes I followed others' "advices" mechanically.
Oftentimes I did something because someone else was doing it...
Sure following the crowd is comfortable; being a coward is easy but it gets us nowhere.
Let's have some balls to do what we love & not what others tell or expect us to do whether they're your parents, teachers or close friends.
I'm a leader that listen to my team & listen intently. But in the end, I form my own opinions.
Donald Trump
Trust but ask out of curiosity & question the status quo. Sometimes it makes me look stupid but it's okay.

Travel, Travel & Travel

"If you're 22, physically fit, hungry..." No, no, no I'm not gonna talk about how important & great traveling is again. Enough said & I just can't encourage you enough to travel.
This year I've traveled 6 times to 7 new places. Almost all are awesome!
The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.
Saint Augustine
It's always easier said than done especially when it comes to sth like travel right? Yes but we have as many reasons to do something as not to do it. So why not just grabbing your bag & do it?

Mui Ne

Good summer holiday. August.

I do 100 continuous push-ups

Yes, you read it correctly. I do 100 fast push-ups in a row!
There is not enough space for me to write all down but in short, it's hard, damn hard & I'm so proud of my achievement!
Most of you reading this won't even be able to manage 20 pushups. Actually, I'm sure many of you can't even do 10.
Steve Speirs

Here are some interesting stats:
- This is my 3rd attempt in 3 years & I fucking do it finally!
- Only 786 people on earth can do that :p
- The max. no of push-ups I did in 1 session is 294 in around 25' :)
- I'm now physically & mentally fit than ever before ;)

If at first you don't...

Tip: Practice, Practise & Practice
Practice makes improvement!

I'm so fortunate!

I just can't say enough how fortunate I am... :)
I'm loved :x I'm respected. I survive a terrible fall. I receive my best ever Birthday gift. I have some awesome close friends. I meet new good (& bad) people. I have a lean team of smart folks beside...
Should I ask for more? Yes? ;)
Never forget where you've come here from,
Never pretend that it's all real,
Someday soon this will all be someone else's dream
Never Forget - Take That

Bangkok

Short yet Fabulous! May.
I'm stoked that you're still here! If you've read this far, you probably wanna add me on facebook or drop me a line to talk about ice cream & beer :D
Joke aside, I'd have shared more stories.

After all, I'm fairly satisfied with my 2013 where I've maitained a relatively good balance between love, life & work as well as done & achieved quite lots of thing out of one's imagination.
I will be much better & definitely go wilder and more outrageous next year ;)

How about you?

Are you gonna set some New Year Resolutions & never really do it? Or do you wanna join me in the next exciting journey? The choice is yours. Choose wisely!

All the very best, my friends!
